Hi and welcome to Jack Roaming! My name is Jack Krier, and I am a writer, photographer, and entrepreneur who travels the world full-time. Originally from Luxembourg, I left the corporate world to pursue my interest in online startups, freelancing – and most importantly, travel. I have been on the road for over 1,000 days now and never looked back.

Long Version: My Story 

I was born and raised in Luxembourg, one of the smallest countries in the world. Ever since I was a kid, I was intrigued by foreign cultures, ancient civilizations, and exotic wildlife. 

At the age of 18, I took my first ever solo trip – traveling all across Mexico by myself. It was an eye-opening experience and forever changed my views on travel, work, and the world. 

During my university years, I traveled as much as possible – visiting 40 countries on every continent except Antarctica in the process. 

Upon graduating from law school at the age of 24, I spent two years working in the finance sector, settling into a traditional Western European lifestyle. The steady paychecks and material perks were appetizing at first, but I soon realized that I needed a different kind of challenge. 

While working in the finance sector, I endlessly fantasized about the road, the only place where I feel at home. Over time, I understood that I needed to take a massive risk to become fully independent. And so, I did.

The Path Toward Becoming Nomadic 

Having explored all sorts of online startups and freelancing opportunities during my college years, I decided to become a full-time freelancer in 2019. I got rid of around 70% of my possessions, left my job, and started to travel full-time. 

The early stages were arduous as I needed to learn the ropes of freelancing and online entrepreneurship – all while changing location every few weeks. After a few months, however, I managed to sustain my lifestyle with e-commerce, photography, and various websites that I own. 

To remain nomadic, I minimalized my life in such a way that it fits into two backpacks and founded a remotely operating company.

My Life Today 

I have been on the road since 2019, stopping every few months when travel fatigue hits me. 

I usually stay in a country as long as it feels right. As such, I don’t often plan complex itineraries but center my travels around a few primary places that I want to see.  So far, my adventures have taken me to 66 countries and every continent. 

As a die-hard adventurer, I always seek novel, uncomfortable challenges because that’s how you grow. These include going a digital detox in Patagonia, riding a rusty motorcycle through chaotic cities and remote jungles in the Philippines, and exploring the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukraine.  

Apart from that, I love to visit offbeat places that aren’t on many people’s radar like Moldova, Uruguay, remote Pacific islands, and eastern Turkey.

When it comes to travel, I strongly believe in three mantras:

  • respect for the locals and learning about foreign cultures;
  • being budget-efficient and intelligent, but not cheap; and 
  • travel hacking like a pro. 

On Jack Roaming, I share all the lessons, tips, and hacks that I learned from years of nonstop planet roaming. My goal is to help you travel better and launch your own digital nomad adventure.

Travel FAQ

As a full-time traveler, I often get asked the same type of questions. On this basis, here are some answers to the most common one.

What are your favorite countries/cities? 

Having been to over 60 countries, there are many that I love. Aside from that, everybody has different tastes and preferences, but the following are my top 5 in no particular order:

How do you make money?

I make money with various websites that I own, e-commerce, freelance writing, and photography. In the last few years, investments have also become important sources of income. As such, I have multiple revenue streams to finance my digital nomad lifestyle.

Where are you from and where do you live? 

I am from Luxembourg (a small country in Europe in case you didn’t know) and still maintain a base there. I only spend 2-3 months a year in my hometown. The rest of the time, I don’t really “live” anywhere for more than 3-4 weeks.

Did you go to college and how do you manage student debt? 

I have a degree in banking and financial law. I don’t have any student debt because, guess what, college is almost free in Europe.
